Our own Dr. J. Patrick Johnson has a long history working as a sideline concussion doctor with the NFL. As this year’s season moves ahead, Dr. Johnson was recently found on the sidelines at Sofi Stadium with the team of physicians, orthopedic surgeons, and neurosurgeons providing evaluations and care for injured players.
J. Patrick Johnson, MD is a renowned neurosurgeon specializing in spinal disorders and has served as the Director of the Institute for Spinal Disorders at Cedars Sinai Medical Center since 2001 and previously as the Director of the UCLA Comprehensive Spine Center from 1993-2001.

The course (previously the Spinal Navigation, Emerging Technologies Course) focuses on provocative topics and in-depth debates regarding spinal navigation and robotics application in spine surgery with nationally recognized speakers. The design is to gain knowledge and experience of the new modalities in spine surgery, addressing both the guidelines and controversies of the field.

Dr. J. Patrick Johnson Participates in a Landmark Paper on COVID-19
Dr. J. Patrick Johnson recently participated in the publication of a landmark comprehensive review paper on COVID-19 that appears in the November 2nd Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease.
According to Babak Kateb, M.D., Chairman of the Board of the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics, President of the Brain Mapping Foundation and senior author of the paper, titled COVID-19: Review of a 21st Century Pandemic from Etiology to Neuro-psychiatric Implications, “It took seven months for 36 physicians and scientists from BMF, SBMT, Cedars-Sinai, USC, UCLA, Stanford, UCI, Cornell, NYU, LLU, California Rehabilitation Institute, Beyond Imagination, T-NeuroPharma, Celularity, NCNBE, Florida Poly Technic University, and BTIP to review over 1000 papers, reference 425 of them covering etiology, pathophysiology, diagnostics, therapeutics and write the most comprehensive review on COVID-19.” “We also used my own mother’s COVID-19 case to write a paper that is based on rock-solid basic and clinical science. I must say that this team at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center saved her life during her 63 days of hospitalization; I am grateful to them and their collaboration for putting this paper together with the rest of our task force,” he continued.
Dr. Johnson participated in the preparation and review of the manuscript and authored portions of the section on Neurological Implications and areas about the virology of Covid-19.

Seattle Science Foundation Spine Residents & Fellows Course
Dr. J. Patrick Johnson will be participating in the upcoming 11th Annual Seattle Science Foundation Spine Residents & Fellows Course. The program is exclusively dedicated to Residents in Neurosurgery and Orthopedics, and Fellows who have just completed their residency and starting fellowship this month at various programs around the country. It includes faculty from many of the premier training programs at Universities and Hospitals in the United States. Dr. Johnson will be among 27 national leaders covering the latest advances in complex spinal disorders such as minimally invasive techniques, trauma, deformity, tumors, infection, and imaging, as well as radiosurgery.
