J. Patrick Johnson spoke at the recent meeting of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons in Austin, Texas. Dr. Johnson’s lecture discussed the current state of spine navigation and robotics in spine surgery, the benefits of navigation and robotics, and whether robotics will be the standard of care in the future.

The Congress of Neurological Surgeons Annual Meeting provides an opportunity for neurosurgeons and practice providers to share ideas, learn about recent advances in neurosurgery, and hear from leaders in their fields.

Dr. J. Patrick Johnson presented on the Pitfalls and Complication Avoidance with Navigation at the recent Spine Summit 2021, the 37th Annual Meeting of the Joint Section on Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves, held by the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. The annual conference showcases the best ongoing research in the field of spinal neurosurgery.

Dr. Johnson covered the latest technological advances in the field of spinal surgery including surface technology, new biologics for fusion, expandable cages, new applications for navigation, robotics, and other topics. Many of the innovations addressed have the potential to improve surgical efficiency, safety, and outcomes.

The annual Spine Summit is jointly provided by the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.

J. Patrick Johnson, MD is a renowned neurosurgeon specializing in spinal disorders and has served as the Director of the Institute for Spinal Disorders at Cedars Sinai Medical Center since 2001 and previously as the Director of the UCLA Comprehensive Spine Center from 1993-2001.

The course (previously the Spinal Navigation, Emerging Technologies Course) focuses on provocative topics and in-depth debates regarding spinal navigation and robotics application in spine surgery with nationally recognized speakers. The design is to gain knowledge and experience of the new modalities in spine surgery, addressing both the guidelines and controversies of the field.
