Spine Fellowship Education
The SIF Spine Fellowship program was the origin of the Cedars Sinai Spine Center Fellowship program that exists today and the SIF now provides additional support for those Fellowships. This is accomplished by enhancing research and educational opportunities beyond what are available. The mission of the overall Fellowship experience to support education and research to make the Fellowship a premier experience and prepare the graduate for entry into a pinnacle position at a highly reputable program upon graduation for the future surgeon scientists we have done for the past 22 years.
The Spine Institute Foundation is proud to have trained nearly 100 Spinal Surgery Fellows since the inception of the training program that originated at UCLA in 1993 and moved to Cedars Sinai in 2001. There have been 62 Neurosurgery Fellows trained and 24 Orthopedic Spine Fellows trained. There have also been 13 International Spine fellows trained from Canada, Peru, Argentina, Russia, and Turkey.
We are also proud to include that 31 of our former Fellows are in Academic training and Research Positions at recognized institutions around the US and foreign medical centers. Seven of these hold Directorship titles at major teaching institutions (Stanford, Brown University, Washington University, Mayo Clinic, University of California-Irvine, and University California-Davis). Five of the International Spine Fellows hold Directorship or Chairmanship titles.
Student Research Experience
Student research experience opportunities are available for those students from various backgrounds that include medical students, college students and high school students. (We actually have a previous high school student researcher who has, years later, went on to train as a neurosurgeon and is now a faculty member at a University of California Medical Center!). These positions are tailored for individual student after evaluation of experience level, interests, and time duration available.
