Vision and Mission statements
The Spine Institute Foundation (SIF) is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization that was founded by J. Patrick Johnson, MD in 2007 to develop a premier Education and Research program to train aspiring and talented young surgeon-scientists in our creative space as the leaders of future generations in our discipline. We work in collaboration with established surgeons and innovative scientists, creative engineers and numerous other dynamic who can facilitate convergence of technology and train the next generation future surgeon-scientist leaders for the best spinal care in the world.
Our Mission is to utilize the futuristic knowledge, technologies, procedures, and the most innovative research methods available in spine care to determine the optimum patient outcomes that provides and creates the most ideal educational training experience available in a creative environment that produces the next generation of Surgeon-Scientists who are the future leaders in our field as well as continue supporting them in their career with life-long education. The trainees experience and innovative techniques of both non-surgical care and surgery, when necessary, using the best clinical judgment, using cutting edge applications of microsurgery, minimally invasive techniques, computer guided surgery, artificial disc and other motion preservation devices, stem cell technologies and related biological repair of the spinal column, nerves, and spinal cord.
We focus on postgraduate fellowship training for new neurosurgery and orthopedic surgical residency graduates to provide a premier training experience that provides and prepares them for entry into an academic career or the equivalent premier private practice. We also provide opportunities for younger students in medical school and college and as young as high school students (whom we have had some that are now Professors at major Universities!!) for research experience that prepares them for an exciting career in many different disciplines in the health care.
We are focused on the education and research field of spine disorders to enhance the experiences for young ambitious students, scientists, physician and surgeons seeking to advance their career in this exciting scientific field.
Goals of the SIF
- Provide a private, non-governmental source of funding for research training in the neurosciences related to the field of spinal surgery.
- Ensure the continued viability and expansion of the field of spinal surgery based on fundamental research in the basic sciences and clinical enterprises pertinent to neurosurgery and orthopedic surgery.
- Augment support for research endeavors by the neurosurgical and orthopedic community.
- Stimulate learning by neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons to enhance educational opportunities for them throughout their careers.
